Assistant Professor of Maritime Economics

Efthymios Roumpis is Assistant Professor of Maritime Economics, at the Department of Port Management & Shipping, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece. He is a skilled Maritime Economist researcher with an emphasis in quantitative methods for economic analysis of shipping markets.

Efthymios holds a MSc in Shipping, Trade and Transport and a PhD in Shipping Finance from the Department of Shipping Trade and Transport, University of the Aegean, Greece. Efthymios has over 12 years of professional experience in shipping industry and financial advisory services. In this context, he has led and delivered numerous audit and consulting projects related to financial instruments valuation, credit and market risk modeling and accounting advisory. Efthymios worked at Deloitte providing consulting services for multiple organizations with specialist experience in market risk, credit risk and pricing financial derivatives. He also worked at Tufton Oceanic with his role focusing on developing quantitative models for shipping markets analysis and financial models for the shipping sector.

He is an Advocate in India and a former Master Mariner & DPA & CSO with over 30 years of expertise in Maritime operations, ship recycling, Insurance, P&I and commercial port management. He is also associated as a Maritime Expert with EY Consulting and KPMG.

He specializes in maritime legal advisory, consulting, litigation, and compliance audits while offering expert guidance on insurance and P&I matters. Rahul has successfully implemented ISO/SMS/TMSA/SIRE 2.0 standards for various shipping companies and is a strong advocate for ESG initiatives and sustainable ship recycling practices. His efforts have helped Alang Ship Yards adopt HKC best practices, and he actively monitors ship recycling activities. Rahul is THOS arm in India and his contribution to the elements of ship recycling that should be incorporated in financing assesment, makes our methodologies more advanced and holistic.

Dr Georgios Remoundos

Dr. Georgios Remoundos is a Naval Architect and Marine Engineer (MEng) with a Ph.D. in Maritime Transport and an MSc in Quality Assurance. He is a postdoctoral researcher and adjunct lecturer at the University of the Aegean, specializing in sustainable maritime transport and technology.

With a career spanning nearly three decades, he has held diverse roles in shipping companies and shipyards, worked as a business consultant and engineer, and served for over 20 years as a government official in Greece, focusing on maritime safety and pollution prevention from ships, as well as technical legislation and policy-making. Actively engaged in professional organizations, he is the Vice President of the Hellenic Association of Naval Architects and a member of the Technical Chamber of Greece, the Hellenic Association of Mechanical & Electrical Engineers, and the Hellenic Institution of Transportation Engineers.
